A Mercedes-AMG One was destroyed by a fire in Germany, and footage of the incident has been circulating on social media. Although there is no official confirmation from Mercedes yet, all indications are that the video is authentic.
The car, registered in the Oldenburg region and recently displayed at the Techno Classica Essen fair, appears to belong to a customer, not a test prototype.
The hypercar, equipped with a complex hybrid system and an engine derived from Formula 1, is known for requiring intensive maintenance, including engine rebuilds every 50,000 kilometers. It is still unknown what caused the fire, whether it was the battery or the 1.6-liter V6 engine, but the driver managed to exit the vehicle before the flames completely consumed it.
Unfortunately, firefighters were unable to save the car, which is one of only 275 units produced. The damage makes it difficult even to identify the model, given the level of destruction.
This is the second known case of an AMG One catching fire, highlighting the technical challenges involved in adapting F1 technology for the streets.
